the incredible bill dixon – live in the studio

Bill Dixon might be my favorite Jazz composer and musician of all time. His music hits my heart like a brick. His death in 2010 was among the worst the field of advanced music has yet to suffer.  Dixon strikes me as a man who found it impossible to compromise – music and integrity came above all else. As a result the small body of work he left behind is nearly flawless. These are four films made in the studio in 2008, while recording Tapestries For Small Orchestra, his penultimate album. The sounds they contain are absolutely stunning. Dive in and let them wash over you.
